Talking Writing Music is a blog dedicated to interviews with composers by me, Paul Kilbey.

Each interview discusses a particular composition, but the broader subject is how and why the composer writes music. I’m interested in exploring what motivates composers to keep creating new work. I’m fascinated by how wide-ranging contemporary composition is, and how different composers are. So my aim is to talk to the broadest mix of composers that I can, about the widest possible range of musical projects.

I also aim to provide a platform on which composers can talk about their work for an interested but non-specialist audience, without a commercial agenda. I want to show that new music is intellectually interesting, even for those without specialist knowledge.

I’m a freelance journalist based in Manchester, with a background in classical music. Read more about me on my website.
